YorServ Solutions Ltd is an independent commercial utility consultancy offering a FREE service to all companies.

We have the buying power to negotiate the best rates for you, based on your individual needs.

We work for you, not the suppliers, and manage the renewal and renegotiation for you.

Our software license solution provides a superb tool for managing your contracts and is available to you online.

The Problem

The contracts to supply commercial energy to businesses are unlike those you are offered at home.

The contracts have a longer term, the rules about changing suppliers and the prices you pay are based on commercial deals not on consumer law, and having an established relationship with the suppliers is critical.

The Solution

YorServ Solutions negotiate on your behalf directly with the commercial energy suppliers. In simple terms, we’ll look at your bills and invite the suppliers to tender for your business and we manage the process of setting up a new contract.

Since we manage the contract, the rates available are almost always significantly better than the energy supplier will offer you if you go directly to them.

How it works

At the moment you probably get billed directly by the commercial energy suppliers based on either their standard rate or a discounted rate based on simple negotiation. At YorServ Solutions we use our established relationships with all the commercial energy suppliers and in effect invite them to tender for your supply on an individual basis. This takes into account your commercial energy consumption history.

As with any tendering process the deals you are then offered will be very competitive. So much so that most of our customers make significant savings, which depending on usage can run to thousands of pounds, or even tens of thousands of pounds.

The trap

As with any commercial contract you need to be careful and understand what you are signing-up to. In the case of commercial energy supply contracts this usually means a 12 month deal minimum with a pre-arranged renewal date several months before the contract ends.

Business people are busy people and these critical dates are easily overlooked, especially if you have several premises each with different contract dates with different power suppliers. You can easily find you’ve been moved to the suppliers standard (more expensive) rates if you fail to renegotiate in time.

And how to avoid it

YorServ Solutions Ltd manage your commercial energy contracts. That means that we will automatically start the re-negotiation process for you at exactly the right time. We track your usage history so the deals we can get you will be the best available based on the market rates.

For more information, contact us on 0845 094 6172 or email info@yorservsolutions.co.uk

Alternatively fax your most recent commercial energy bill to 0845 094 6173 & we’ll do the work

Portable Appliance Testing or better known as PAT Testing has legislation to follow. The legislations of specific relevance to electrical maintenance are the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.

The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 puts the duty of care upon both the employer and the employee to ensure the safety of all persons using the work premises. This includes the self employed.

The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 states:

“Every employer shall make suitable and sufficient assessment of:

(a) the risks to the health and safety of his employees to which they are exposed whilst at work, and

(b) the risks to ensure the health and safety of persons not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him or his undertaking.”

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 states:

“Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”

The PUWER 1998 covers most risks that can result from using work equipment. With respect to risks from electricity, compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 is likely to achieve compliance with the PUWER 1998.

PUWER 1998 only applies to work equipment used by workers at work. This includes all work equipment (fixed, transportable or portable) connected to a source of electrical energy. PUWER does not apply to fixed installations in a building. The electrical safety of these installations is dealt with only by the Electricity at Work Regulations.

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 states:

“All systems shall at all times be of such construction as to prevent, so far as reasonably practicable, such danger.”

“As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as reasonably practicable, such danger.”

“‘System’ means an electrical system in which all the electrical equipment is, or may be, electrically connected to a common source of electrical energy and includes such source and such equipment”

“‘Electrical Equipment’ includes anything used, intended to be used or installed for use, to generate, provide, transmit, transform, rectify, convert, conduct, distribute, control, store, measure or use electrical energy.”

Scope of the legislation for PAT Testing

It is clear that the combination of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the PUWER 1998 and the EAW Regulations 1989 apply to all electrical equipment used in, or associated with, places of work. The scope extends from distribution systems down to the smallest piece of electrical equipment.

It is clear that there is a requirement to inspect and test all types of electrical equipment in all work situations.

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) requires, every employer to ensure that work equipment is suitable for the purpose for which it is provided, only used in the place and under the provisions for which it is provided. It also requires every employer to ensure work equipment be efficiently maintained and kept fit and suitable for its intended purpose. It must not be allowed to deteriorate in function or performance to such a level that it puts people at risk. This means that regular, routine and planned maintenance regimes must be considered if hazardous problems can arise.

Regulation 3 of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 recognises a responsibility that employers and many employees have for electrical systems.

“It shall be the duty of every employer and self employed person to comply with the provisions of the regulations in so far as they relate to matters which are within their control.

It shall be the duty of every employee while at work:

(a) to co-operate with their employer so far as is necessary to enable any duty placed on that employer by the provision of the regulations to be complied with: and
(b) to comply with the provision of these regulations in so far as they relate to matters which are within their control.”

Adrian Jack is the first British extreme ice skater to take part in the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championships. After making his debut last year he has developed a hunger for this extreme ice skating. Typically with Red Bull their extreme sports package encompasses ice skating with top professional skaters from hockey, figure and other disciplines. This test really pushes the physical endurance of the competitors. Take a look at the preview for the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championships 2012

YorServ Solutions Ltd are proud to be sponsoring Adrian, from Hull and a professional skater for more than 15 years. After speaking with Adrian he is keen to have local sponsorship and given our electrical and energy services we have found the combination electric to say the least.

Adrian skates out to Austria late January for training and preparation for the event in Valkenberg, Holland on the 4th February. Please follow Adrian on twitter @adiejack1 or check out his Facebook page.

In addition he has done some promotional work with Sure for Men and it can be viewed here.

We wish Adrian all the best in Valkenberg and beyond.

Unfortunately Adrian didnt qualify for the finals at Valkenberg but being the fastest British skater he has been offered a place in the next round of the Crashed Ice World Championships in Sweden. Keep following him as he will make the LIVE finals stages this time.
